Supervisor Essentials - Employee Productivity

Workstream Productivity

Employees are often concerned with how many hours they are working and how much work they have to finish in tight timeframes. Supervisors are more concerned with tracking how many hours are spent on tasks for their employees, meeting targets for completing tasks, and overseeing a workstream that produces efficient results. Supervising employee productivity requires knowing how your employees work and coaxing them to produce, while making sure they manage their effort with their time.

Managing Performance

A supervisor who is a team leader is the type of person who can coax out the necessary performance from their team. Just like a coach who guides his/her players to excel, or a conductor who leads an orchestra, a supervisor who manages performance is someone who knows people and the best way to motivate their productivity. For many companies, productivity is #1 - and you need the supervisory skills to make your team want to give a great performance.

Delegation

Delegation of tasks and responsibilities is often the hallmark of a supervisor who has many issues and employees under their care. If you can't trust yourself to tell people what you need done or reliably trust your people to do the job, then you won't have the time to address all your work concerns. You need to know when and how to delegate and organize your team to create an solid work environment. Being a supervisor is being a leader who can trust people to produce when asked.
